What is a Just Transition?

A Just Transition is a vision-led, place-based set of principles and practices that build economic and political power in order to shift from an extractive economy to a regenerative economy.

The extractive economy is rooted in toxic systems which continuously prioritize profits over human lives and the life support systems of our planet. In order to transition to a regenerative economy, we must work to build one that looks very different than the one we are currently living in.

Just transition initiatives are happening across the world from industrial food systems as local economies shift from dirty energy to energy democracy, from industrial food systems to food sovereignty and from destructive development to ecosystem restoration.

At the core of a just transition is community-centered solutions in which the people, not corporations, have control over the decisions which affect their daily lives.
