Telling Tales with Trash: An Island Wide School Creation Competition

To engage the youth in the waste crisis, we decided to launch The Second Life Project: Telling Tales with Trash. This project calls attention to the island’s waste crisis by engaging K-12 students island-wide in an upcycled art competition, where students transform trash into an artistic piece that tells a relevant local story. In 2022, we had 400 students upcycle over 1,000 pounds of trash into artistic sculptures.

Numa'lo Refillery

Numa'lo Refillery is Guåhan's first zero waste ecostore and refillery. We first connected with founder Mina Flores-Cantrell in 2020, when we connected her with CJA's Just Transition Financial Training- leading her to receive a non-extractive loan. We also helped to lease Numa'lo with a mobile van, which is used for pop-ups and deliveries. Currently, we share our office space with Numa'lo, where they retail products.
